iPhone OS 3.0

I’m watching the live coverage of Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 preview.

The in-app sales is kind of cool. We might use that for games to offer more levels. Looks like push notifications are finally coming. Might finally get a decent IM client on the iPhone now.

Having access to Google Maps via API is nice. Looks like TomTom is coming as they are talking about turn-by-turn directions too.

In-app email will be useful for getting user feedback. It’s annoying to have to close app and switch to Mail app on the phone.

On one of the slides it shows CoreData is finally coming. About time. The 3rd party applications they were showing off look pretty good too.

For a user’s point of view, the copy/cut/paste is nice. The landscape keyboard support for mail/notes/SMS is long over due. MMS support I guess is okay, I never use SMS/MMS now. Why would I want to pay per message when I have free email?

Adding search (a/k/a Spotlight) is great feature. Calender support for .ics files and CalDAV is very welcome.

Overall looks like a good update, can’t wait for final SDK and OS.
