iPhone SDK

I’ve been fighting with Interface Builder this morning. I wanted to add a search view in the DefaultPass application. I added another NavBar item, set the class, told it load the new view containing a UITreeView and UISerachBar.

Just got crashes in the iPhone simulator. This should be a 5 minute task. I’m sure it’s something small like how objects are connected, but it’s a real pain in the ass to track down.

Searching online it seems most devs have a very low opinion of Interface Builder and recommend not using it. They suggest doing everything programically. I’m done that with Gtk+ programming and it wasn’t an enjoyable experience. It would be nice if Apple put more effort into their development tools so they were more usable.

Another thing, it would be nice if I didn’t have to download 1.75GB every time they update the iPhone software (e.g. 2.2.1). You’d think they’d be able to release updates.

Maybe I’ll just move the search to the navigation bar instead of using the UISearchBar widget in a view. I need to get this resolved so I can submit to Apple for approval and get back to game development.
