Thunder K8WEX

More detail about Tyan’s new dual Opteron board have surfaced. The board will be called Thunder K8WEX.

According to the datasheet it uses the Nvidia Nforce Professional (CK8-04) chipset. It’s got support for:

  • Dual Opterons
  • Up to 16 GB of DDR 333/400 ECC RAM
  • 2 – 16x PCI Express slots
  • Dual port Ultra 320 SCSI Controller (Up to 30 Channels)
  • 4 x S-ATA
  • Dual Gigabyte Gigabit Ethernet controllers
  • USB 2.0, FireWire, Integrated Audio

Kind of surprised no S-ATA II support. As I suspected the board uses the Extended ATX format (12″ x 13″).

Hopefully Asus will release a dual Operton board. It would be nice to have a choice other than just Tyan.
