More detail about Tyan’s new dual Opteron board have surfaced. The board will be called Thunder K8WEX.
According to the datasheet it uses the Nvidia Nforce Professional (CK8-04) chipset. It’s got support for:
- Dual Opterons
- Up to 16 GB of DDR 333/400 ECC RAM
- 2 – 16x PCI Express slots
- Dual port Ultra 320 SCSI Controller (Up to 30 Channels)
- 4 x S-ATA
- Dual Gigabyte Gigabit Ethernet controllers
- USB 2.0, FireWire, Integrated Audio
Kind of surprised no S-ATA II support. As I suspected the board uses the Extended ATX format (12″ x 13″).
Hopefully Asus will release a dual Operton board. It would be nice to have a choice other than just Tyan.
